An Almost Normal Life

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Life was normal, well at least for me. I had a family, a nice house off in the outskirts of Sitka, Alaska and a great job as a doctor. The only thing that would make my life decently abnormal was the fact that my family and I were vampires living, secretly in a society of humans. After living in Sitka for more than twelve weeks, today is really the first day in town. Me and my family have now familiarized our location and have the proper self-control to branch out into the human life in Sitka. The kids are going to attend the local high school and I’m starting work at the local hospital. The day was going to be cloudy, as usual, since Sitka was covered under a blanket of clouds all year round making it perfect for vampires. It was around 5:00 am when I heard the front door slam. I knew it was my kids since they decided to hunt before their big day. I came out of my office, located on the second floor and noticed Glory stump up the stairs and pass me with an extremely hard face. Her face was extremely beautiful, resembling a model.

“Glory, sweetie, what’s with the hard face?” I asked, though I have already known the answer.

“Ask them.”

The petite twins just came through the front door, giggling at each other, and Glory marched to her room in the far corner of the hallway and slammed the door with a mighty force. Oscar and Gyalene soon followed the twins and closed the door behind them.

“Twins, can I see you in my office, please.” I waited for the identical twins and escorted them into my office. The room was dim and painting hung from the right wall. I headed around my desk, just like I do when talking to my patients.

“Girls, I need a word with both of you.”

“We didn’t do anything to Glory dad, I swear-“

“Keyshla I really need you to listen to me.” Keyshla gave an annoyed face and slouched deeper in the chair while Melanie kept a proper pasture.

“Okay, girls I need you guys to behave yourselves and be a little more considerate with your sister. We are about to branch out into the human world here in Sitka and I don’t need any problems on our first day. How can I trust you girls will behave yourselves with the humans-?

“You must behave yourselves girls, this is no joke.”

Nobody noticed that Eunice was in the room. She walked elegantly toward her husband and gave the twins a serious face.

“I told you dad, we didn’t do anything to Glory. She’s just acting up cause I stole her kill.”

Melanie, for the first time in her father’s presence, giggled to herself. Keyshla cracked a smile as well.  

“Very well than, twins you may excuse yourselves. Go get ready for school. You guys should arrive at 8:00am and please go tell Oscar and Gya to get ready as well.”

“Okay dad.” said Melanie and Keyshla at the same time.

With that, the twins left my office leaving me alone with my beautiful wife.

“What are we going to do with them?” said Eunice in a mild tendency.

“Don’t worry honey, I trust my girls, they will be fine.” He got up and gave his wife a passionate kiss and left the office together.

“Hey dad,” Oscar stopped me with a serious face and muscular body as I exited my office, “what car are we going in?”

It took me awhile to think of all cars we had. All my children have two passenger sports cars. I thought of the biggest car since all of my children were to drive together.

“You can take Gya and your sisters in your mom’s car, if that’s okay with you dear.”

“I don’t mind” said Eunice in her soft elegant voice.

“Awesome, thanks mom” replied Oscar with sudden excitement in his voice.

“Just don’t scratch it okay dear” she smiled and excused herself from her son and husband. I was going to excuse myself as well and counsel Glory, but Oscar’s large hand grips my forearm.

“Um, dad can I talk to you. It’ll take a sec.”

“Sure.” Oscar took me somewhere more secluded. He felt extremely hesitant. I knew something was wrong.

“It’s about Gya. I feel like she acting different.”

“What is she doing different-

“Shh, dad I don’t want her to hear.” I lowered my voice until it became a whisper.

            “What is she doing different?”

            “I dunno. You haven’t noticed?”

            “No, not really. I muttered in a whisper. Oscar gave a weak smile and nodded his head hesitantly.

            “But I will keep an eye on her”

            “Thanks dad you’re the-

            “Best, I know.” Oscar gave his dad a look and marched off to get ready.

I really wanted to see Glory and get her side of the story. So I walked up the large hall and entered the last room in the right corner. I knock on her door, beautifully decorated in purple and black song notes and her name right in the middle of the door.

            “Come in.” said the beautiful voice from the other side of the door.

I creped open the door and entered her room. It felt more like a music studio. A black piano was perched up in the far right corner and her huge radio was installed in the opposite direction of the piano. However, she was on her purple, fuzzy chair playing her guitar next to the window.

            “Oh, it’s you dad.”

            “Were you expecting someone else?” I asked sarcastically.

She got up, put her guitar on its stand and walked toward me embracing me with a huge hug.

            “A boyfriend”

            “Ha, you’re going to have to wait-

            “A hundred years?” She asked me, now there was sarcasm in her tone.

            “Sure why not?” She released me and looked at with a look of disgust. I noticed her eyes were a dark topaz.

            “I heard the twins stole your kill. I have already talked to them okay, they won’t do it again.”

            “Yeah, whatever. Stupid twins”

            "Glory”

            “I only speak the truth; I am after all smarted then them, making them stupid.” I looked at her and cracked a small smile, then hugged her.

            “Hurry and get ready it’s almost 8:00.”

 

It was also my first day in my new hospital. However, before I went to my job, I had to drop some papers off the school informing that my children and that they would have to miss out on some unexceptional days, truth being they couldn’t come to school on sunny days. As I rushed to get my shirt and dress pants on, I noticed no one was ready.

            “KIDS, it’s time to go!”

I was next to the door in a flash. Then everyone came down one by one. Gya was first, she was wearing a red blouse, dark jeans and had her hair lose letting the wind naturally move her black hair. Oscar was behind Gya holding her hand, following her lead. He was wearing a tan leather jacket and black jeans, is hair was wet and his curls were shimmering. The twins were next wearing identical yellow shirts that said “Yes were identical” and Glory had a purple T on with a black skirt and her milk chocolate hair flowing in the wind as she descended the stairs. Eunice stayed home for she preferred it rather than running errands or working.

            “And that makes five” I said as Glory walked past me. “See you in a few hours my love” I said to Eunice, she smiled and blew me a kiss and I closed the door behind me.

            Oscar took the driver seat and Gya the passenger and everyone else got in the back of the large Cadillac. I took my car, the Lincoln, and revved the engine. The morning fog was dense making it extremely hard to see the small road leading into the metropolises of Sitka. I led the way while Oscar followed. We sped down the empty road and slowed when we arrived in the school zone. I parked in front of the main office and Oscar lined up right behind me. I reached for the paper on the dash board, and exited my car. The kids were already on school premises. The student heads turned in aw as my children and I walked towards the office. When we entered I gave the personal information of my kids to the receptionist and she handed them their schedules for the semester.

            “Good morning Miss”, I looked at front desk with her name, “Turner, I am the Doctor Donovan and I have some essential credentials that your overseer needs to amend with reference to my children.”

            “Um, I will get the principal sir.” she said looking bewildered.

She picked up the nearest phone to her to summon the principle.

            “Mrs. Nimmon, the new doctor in town is here and needs to speak with you now.” She then turned to me.

“Dr. Donovan, the principle will be here momentarily.”

However, as soon as the receptionist finished her sentence, a large woman dressed in pink came and greeted me.

            “Dr. Donovan nice to meet you.” she flinched on contact with my cold hand.

            “Equally the nobility Mrs. Nimmon” she directed me to her office and sat me down in front of her.

            “Mrs. Nimmon, I have recently enlisted my five children in your institute of higher learning, however I must request that there deficiency be uncountable for the remainder of there stay here.

            “Why is that?” she gave me a stern look.

            “The illogical discharge of their academic locale has been recorded in particular format of the Department of Education.” She as well was dumbfounded.

            “Okay doctor but you still have to pay the regular monthly fee.”

            “Of course” I stood up, shook her hand and quickly exited the office.

By surprise my five children where outside of the office waiting for me.

            “Don’t you guys have class now?” I asked almost mad.

            “Chill, dad this is our free period” said Gya since she was the closest to me.

            “Humph, no trouble okay guys”

 I kissed my girls and shook my son’s large hand before departing to the hospital. Upon arrival, I noticed how small the hospital was, I actually preferred it this way, it was more comfortable and privet. As I entered the building, the same medical smell surrounded me as in Vancouver, I loved the smell. I headed to my office and started decorating the desk with family pictures of my beautiful wife and children. As I was arranging my last pictures of the twins, I heard a knock on the door. A woman resembling a supermodel walked into my office limping on her right leg.

            “Are you a doctor?” she asked with a soft tone

            “Yes, how may I assist you?” I replied in a business like tone.

            “Um, yes, my leg just got caught and I saw you enter the doctor’s office, may you please check to if it’s dislocated?”

            “Of course, please take a seat ma’am.”

I sat her in the chair across my desk and raised her calf on a leg cushion and started examining the leg. I couldn’t find anything wrong with it.

            “Everything appears to be in order, I can’t detect any displacement.”

            “Oh okay, thanks doctor, um, can I get your number. Just incase my leg starts hurting again.”

I looked at her. Her eyes full of lust. I made me smile because I felt sorry for the desperate woman I stood up and walked to my desk playing with the wedding ring Eunice got me for the young lady would notice I was married. I wrote the hospital number on the paper and handed it to her.

            “This is the hospital number; call it if you feel any displacement, okay?” I told her in a business tone.

            “Oh, ok thanks doc.” She replied disappointed

She got up and started walking normally towards my door and exited. The rest of the day was quite. No emergencies, just elder and young check ups. Time flew fast and then I noticed my shift was almost done. I took the moment to call Eunice. I flipped open my cell phone and dialed my wife’s number extremely fast. She answered and talked first.

            “Hi, dear how’s work?”

            “Fine, pretty quite day honey, what have you done?”

            “Read” There was a long pause.

            “Hm, Eunice what will happen if I told you a very young woman faked a leg injury in order to my number?”

            “Ha, don’t do anything stupid Giovanni. I trust you my love.”

            “Don’t worry honey, I’m not going to break a hundred and fifty years of my life for a desperate woman, I love you and only you. You are my life.” She stayed silent.

            “What time are you going to be off?”

            “In like thirty minutes, love”

            “Okay dear, see you soon, I’m going to finish the novel, love you.”

            “I love you too.”

I hung up the phone and did paper work in my office until my last patient entered. I examined him and it was my time to leave. I entered my Lincoln and sped home. It took me probably fifteen minutes if there was no traffic. As soon as I pulled into my I noticed Eunice’s Cadillac in the drive way. It was way too early for school to end. I rushed inside where Eunice greeted me with a loving kiss.

            “Where are the kids?” I asked her after she released me.

            “The kids? They are at school, honey. It’s 2:46. They should be on there way actually.” I gave a confusing stare and looked put the window. The car was gone.

            “I think I’m seeing things.”

I laughed, walked to my wife and kissed her with much enthusiasm. I loved my wife very much, her smell, her face, every single thing about her. She was truly my soul mate; I can’t live with out her. The best part was that I knew she felt the same for me, I felt such love when ever we made contact. I knew, once I saw her in London so very long ago, she had to be mine. Call me selfish, but I needed her. In the mist of our affection, the door burst open and I felt as if cold water shivered down my spine. The kids were here.

            “Ew, so many rooms in this house and you decide to show affection in the entrance.” as she past with a smile on her face.

            “Sorry dad. I will come home later next time.”         

“Don’t worry about it, son.” I told Oscar, he too with a smile on his face.

Gyalene kissed me on the cheek and was quickly behind Oscar, grabbing his huge arm before I could greet her back. The twins entered at the same time.

“Hi daddy” they both said at the same time.

“Hi girls, how was your first day?” Keyshla looked at Melanie and started to giggle. I raised my eyebrow and Eunice clichéd her jaw.

“Girls what did you do?” Eunice asked in a stern, motherly voice.

“Nothing mom, there was just a lot of attention.” Melanie replied in her cute angelic voice, that I loved.

With that the twins marched up stairs together, giggling and slammed their door.

“I guess they had a good time.” I said looking upstairs, thinking how the children acted on their first day of school.

           

            The next few weeks were pretty easy at the hospital, just one emergency, and for that matter, my schedule has drastically changed for the longer. I now worked from 9:00am until 7:00pm, conversely, I didn’t mind because I never get tired. I did, however, preferred being with my family than staying lock in my office. When my shift was done, I really wanted to go home. With haste, I paced toward my car, thinking only about my household and ignoring my surroundings. When I got home, I couldn’t help to smell the atmosphere around my house. It was an unfamiliar scent. There was someone or something I didn’t identify near my house. I looked into the nearby forest a few miles east of my house. I squinted my eyes but couldn’t see anything. I decided to discuss it with my wife, so I locked my car and opened the front door.

Biography

 

Giovanni was born into a poor family in Italy in 1640. Giovanni’s parents died when he was only 17, leaving him alone as an orphan for three year. Giovanni moved in with his uncle, a priest that hunted demonic creatures of the midnights. He helped his Uncle track these savages beast that were well known only in mythological tales and legends. While with his Uncle, Giovanni gained the benefit to attend a school, eat food, and live under a safe roof. Italy grew tiring for the two men because there was hardly any action, no vampires and no werewolves perched in curiosity. Giovanni and his uncle decided to leave Italy and head west to London, where there was sure to be something lurking in the dark. On arrival, they joined a cult of priest that hunted similar beat of the night. Giovanni loved London. He admired everything from the building to the women. As he was pacing in the outskirts of the city, he couldn’t help but notice an extremely attractive young lady. The girl walked with such elegance as if she where royalty. Her face was elegant and her eye’s stayed focused on the pavement. She seemed sad. He did not dare approach her for he was new in town and absolutely terrified if she was royalty and she seemed too young. On a misty cold night in London, the cult received information on savage beast terrorizing locals in a public ally way. Giovanni and his Uncle decided to step up and track down the beast. As they prepared for the confrontation, panic and adrenaline pumped through Giovanni’s body. He was extremely nervous; he couldn’t help his leg for they were shaking to their own beat. Upon arrival, Giovanni disgust soon over whelmed the panic at the sight of the bloody corpses in the corresponding alleyway. A dozen corpses lied on the ground, pale and covered in blood. Suddenly, swift, fast figures ran out of the alleyway and ran off into the next street. Giovanni chased them as fast as he could but the dark figures were too much. As he slowed down, Giovanni was utterly confused and lost. He was separated from his guides and was mislaid within the dark depth of the English city. He fused his shotgun with trinity rounds, trying to keeping watch in all corners as he maneuvered and tried to find his guidance. Unexpectedly, Giovanni felt the blonde sadistic vampire tug on his sleeve and he was gradually looking in the eyes of five new thirsty vampires.

 

 

 The next thing Giovanni remember was waking up with a tremendous burning feeling in his body. His insides felt like they were being cut with a razor sharp knife. He screamed in pain. He noticed the smell of ripe pine trees and concluded that he was no longer in the city. He was I dire pain. He thought it was death playing with him. He needed to escape his grasp. Giovanni gathered some strength and limped toward the nearest tree. He continued to ease walk through the forest with dire pain in his stomach. He came upon an abandoned shack. He inched his way into what look like to be the bathroom because it was alit with the bright moon light. He looked into the mirror and flinched at the sight of what he has become. His eyes were brick red and dry, rusted blood consumed neck and face. Then he notices how pale he got similar to snow. He slowly reached toward his mouth to see if it was true. He felt the sharp end of his tooth. He now was scared of the truth and didn’t want to believe it. However, he knew what had become. Giovanni was now alone once again now as a vampire.

 

The new life style was extremely hard to adapt to. He craved human blood, thinking of it all days and nights. However, he never wanted to harm a human for he knew he can control himself and his self urge. He decided to feast on wild boar and sheep I near by cattle. This substitute helped his self control tremendously. After eighty- years of self doubt and self control was even able to interact with humans, not thinking about how sweet their blood smelled. At this point Giovanni decided to go and finish his course in medicine he took so long ago in Italy. He enrolled in The University of Padua and took a major in medical therapy. He took night courses alone and after that went hunting in a near by forest, feasting on bobcats and bears. Four years later he graduate and became full fledged doctor. Upon his graduation, he decided to visit the Kyuuketsuki gang in Japan, also considered to be vampire royalty. The Kyuuketsuki welcomed Giovanni as a guest and was taken directly to the leaders, Tomoshibi Chi sama and Kuro Chi sama. Giovanni became fond of the leaders and was there by granted permission to go where ever they pleased and live an almost normal life with out any intrusions. Giovanni decide to settle in Vancouver, but before he moved to Canada he decided to go to London just to visit the city’s beauty. As he paced the same empty, foggy streets he came across a woman on the snowy ground. He checked the woman to see if she was still alive. Her pulse was dimming. Giovanni observed the streets; everything was silent as the mist slowly grew thicker. He then checked the face of the dieing woman. He flinched at the sight of her beauty. Her face was the same youthful face he encountered almost a decade ago years ago. I was impossible. He couldn’t let her die. He bit her wrist and took her to Vancouver and decided to tame her and become his wife. Upon arrival, he entered the tremendous house he bought before visiting London. He catered to Eunice’s needs until the transformation was complete. When the turning finished he explained to her what she was now and the life style she now lived. Eunice, after a few years, fell in love with Giovanni and they got married in a simple church. Sitka was their new home. Giovanni was now a doctor at the local hospital while Eunice stayed home reading her collection of novels. After a few short years, the beautiful couple went to Russia to hunt. As they hunted they came across the body of a young man, probably in his twenties. They checked the carcass. His body was covered in dark bruises, some how he was still breathing. Time was running low; the couple had to make a decision. Giovanni bit the boy’s ankle since his wrist and neck were frozen with frost bite. Giovanni and Eunice took him to Vancouver. The venom cured the frost bite but stopped his heart. As Giovanni did with Eunice, he started explaining what he was now. Eunice’s motherly speech helped Oscar Leonardo stay calm and collected. After a few years he too adapted to the vampire lifestyle living with Giovanni and Eunice. Shortly after Oscar’s turning the doctor and his newly formed family decided to go hunt east of Canada in Nova Scotia because many brown bears were migrating around that region. The family spotted smoke across the horizon. They rushed in speculation because the place they hunted was extremely remote. A house in the middle of no where was alit with flames. It remained a lit for a few minutes and then collapsed gently. There was no more to see so the family continued with their hunt. Suddenly, Oscar spotted movement in the snow. Giovanni rushed towards the body that was crawling like a creature. He examined the face of a seriously burned young lady gasping for air. Her arms and half of her face was covered in blisters. He examined her once more and looked at Eunice. She nodded her head and Giovanni bit her neck. They rushed towards Vancouver; it only took the family two hours to cross the country of Canada. When they arrived to their home, they injected the young lady with morphine to ease the vampire venom and cure her blisters. Eunice and Oscar agreed to stay with her and tell her what has happened to her while Giovanni attended his hospital. Glory Annette was now part of the Donovan family. Giovanni realized how his family was growing, slowly turning in to a coven. After Glory was controlled and her eyes changed form ruby to amber, Giovanni took his family to Andorra, a small country of the southeast border of France. This was a new place that everyone was exited to see. Giovanni rented a small, luxurious cottage for one month, thinking all would be peaceful. The Donovan’s drove to their rented cottage. Upon arrival, Giovanni smelled a sweet strong human scent, it was not normal, it was way to strong. He looked in his rear view mirror and noticed Glory and Oscar had their eyes closed tying to refuse the sweet temptation. Eunice had a hard time as well covering her nose and looking at Giovanni with a shocking look. Giovanni stopped the car with a screech. He stepped out of his car and observed the dark French horizon. The vast French plain was alit under the moon light. The scent was getting stronger. He quickly jerked his head to the left, away from the car, where he spotted a dark figure far away in the clearing. He sprinted with haste toward the figure. As he came closer to the mysterious figure, the sweet human scent became excruciatingly difficult to resist, however he was not tempted by it. The sight was shocking. Danielle Wingates, famous for being the most dangerous vampire in existence was feasting on the necks of two young women. Giovanni’s eye went black. He gave an angry growl that made the vampire look up, her face, beautiful, covered in the sweet blood that was extremely hard to resist. She returned a growl and decided to retreat. Giovanni approached the two girls and saw an extreme resemblance. They were twins. Their blood was all over the grassy ground, it shimmered under the moon light. Giovanni was horrified and confused. Eunice has arrived with a hard face. Giovanni explained what he witnessed and instructed her to go back to the cottage while he took the girls to a safer location. Eunice hurried to the car, in under 30 second, and came back with Giovanni’s medical bag. Giovanni griped the bag and carried the twins into an abandoned shack nearly one hundred miles away in a remote town in Teensier. He injected the nearly dead girls with morphine since they were infused with vampire venom. Melanie Ann and Keyshla Lyn learned to live life as vampires. Giovanni told them the pros and cons of being a vampire and the life style they would receive if they decided to move in with him. As, expected they agreed to live with the Donovan’s in Vancouver and became controlled in nearly three years. It was time to move to a different location since Giovanni’s family was larger. He decided to move to a small town in Alaska called Sitka. It was mostly cloudy annually which made it a perfect location for the vampire family. Giovanni purchased an enormous house on the outskirts of the town. It was remote and private. The family unquestionably kept there identity secret for a few days before interacting and attending jobs or school. As the days pasted, Giovanni noticed his eldest son, Oscar, was acting differently, more vivid then usual. The day Oscar brought Gyalene Amalia Lucian to the house; it became apparent that his son has fallen in love. Giovanni welcomed her with his huge arms and so did the rest of the Donovan’s. Gyalene moved into the family after few weeks, completing the family. Now the new family will live their lives peacefully in Sitka, hopefully.
